Did a Podcast!

Just yesterday, we published the first ever podcast on the WSO2 Business Process Server product. The product itself is only months old, so I'm positive the podcast will turn out to be a useful resource.

Kudos to Milinda, WSO2's Technical Lead for the Business Server project, for making it for the recording last week despite not being in perfect health.
WSO2 has also planned a Webinar titled "Better Business Processes in your SOA with WSO2 BPS" this March, to review the evolution of BPEL and introduce the Business Process Server.

It was a brand new experience for me too, as it was the first time I actually hosted a podcast. Needless to say, it was to a certain degree, a huge learning experience. Its been 5 years since I last took part in anything like this and the last one being a news read at RMIT's youth radio station synFM.

WSO2 team is working around the clock for the GA release of our revolutionary middleware product WSO2 Carbon.

Already known to be flexible, agile and extensible, the final beta release of Carbon was made available on the 12th of this month. The team is currently working on several release candidates.

With this release, we will have WSO2 Web Services Application Server (WSO2 WSAS) v3.0, WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus (WSO2 ESB) v2.0, WSO2 Registry v2.0 and WSO2 Business Process Server (WSO2 BPS) v1.0 coming out as carbon-based products.

WSO2 team will then go on to make the framework itself available as a download.

WSO2will be repeating "WSO2 Synergies: The Carbon Story" Webinar on 17th February 9am PST. Stay tuned to find out about the unified SOA middleware platform that allows you to seamlessly add product capabilities as your implementation grows.

WSO2 Carbon Memory Usage

Requests were sent continuously at the rate of 1 request every 200ms for nearly 17 hours at while the memory usage & memory allocated graphs were traced. The Carbon front-end running JSPs & Web service stubs, and the Carbon back-end running Admin Web services were hosted on the same JVM instance. The graph in the figure shows a garbage collection pattern. On average, just 90MB of memory has been consumed.

Martha Goes Live on OT Cloud!

Martha, that delivered the Web2.0 look and feel for all WSO2 project home pages and download pages, together with an automated module that generates Drupal pages was successfully deployed on WSO2 Oxygen Tank last week.

On the Web 2.0 front, new project pages enables one stop access to all project related information including Features Lists, Trainings, User forums, Support, Consulting, Issue Trackers, Mailing Lists and Source Code. Download pages are also upgraded with easy access to distributions and other distributions related artifacts such as Installation guides, Quick Start Guides, Support and Subscription.

The template module works behind the screen capturing all essential bits and pieces of data, that goes on project home pages and download pages, to enable effective future theme migrations.

With Carbon almost nearing completion, await "The Carbon Story" - a slide deck that contains you need to know about Carbon on WSO2 Carbon project page this week!

WSO2 Data Services - 1.0 beta released

After several weeks hard work we finally released WSO2 Data Services - 1.0 beta last week. It can be downloaded from here.

Difference: WSO2 WSAS Data Services Vs WSO2 Data Services

Earlier we shipped Data Services functionality on top of our Web Service Application Server (WSAS). It first appeared on WSAS 2.0 release. But we decided to a ship Data Service capabilities as a separate product. WSO2 Data Services v1.0beta is the first public release of this new breed.

What's new?

Apart from support for multiple data sources & REST there aren't any major feature additions in this release. But major changes have come in the form of componentization. Our core web service runtime & UI framework is now layered on top of Equinox OSGI implementation. We have invested considerable amount of effort to put together a stable Axis2 web service hosting environment on top of OSGI & hoping to capitalize our future features on top of this.

What next?

We are working on releasing another beta somewhere next week. So stay tuned.

WSO2 ESB, an ultra fast, light-weight and versatile Enterprise Service Bus based on the Apache Synapse ESB, released v1.7.1 and is now available on OT to download.
The 1.7.1 release of the ESB fixes mostly the user interface issues in release 1.7 for Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 7.

Yesterday on OT, Ruwan Janapriya published a superb article on SOA Governance and the WSO2 Registry v1.1 solution to governance.

Ruwan starts off with an introduction to SOA, the popular architectural style based on open communication standards and loosely-coupled, highly re-usable components called services. He then builds the case for a governance solution illustrating challenges an SOA implementation could face as it matures, if governance issues are not addressed earlier on..
